Project Design Coordinator - Hospitality (M/F)
We are seeking a Project Design Coordinator to assist and develop appropriate design solutions on multiple projects and coordinate multiple teams. Interested applicants must be able to work collaboratively and independently, enjoy creating outstanding projects, and have leadership skills.
The ideal candidate must possess the following skills:
- Strong design skills, a passion for creativity, being capable of understanding the Projects’ program requirements and costs
- Strong organizational skills

- Construction documents and specification experience
- Initiative, proactivity and dynamism
- Experience coordinating with a range of consultants, including architecture, Structures, MEP, and other designers, and managing Licensing authorities
- Ability to skillfully work alongside internal and external clients
- Strong written, verbal communication and collaboration skills
About the Project Coordinator role
At Mercan Properties, the Project Coordinator (PC) is a member of the Construction & Development team and works in a support role to the Head of Design (HD). The PC manages all aspects of drawing coordination reviews, including project specifications, and provides input on site and unit development plans, building amenity programming, and assists in the selection process for different type of consultants (from Designers to surveys, all services that each project may require).
The PC will interface with project teams, including designers, architects, landscape designers, engineers, kitchen consultants and audio-visual Consultants, as well as with our internal Operations and Marketing department members. The PC will work with the HD on positioning strategy and visioning for each asset in addition to working with construction teams to see a project through the permitting process and construction. The PC will maintain the highest level of design principles and documents for all projects to ensure quality, health, safety & welfare of the public within a space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control and monitor the Project's programming, budget, quality and planning
- Monitor Procurement processes
- Financial Project control and third-party Invoice approval
- Coordinate Development and Operations requirements to program leasing spaces, amenity areas and back of house
- Lead, review and manage Design Consultants through all Design Phases
- Be responsible for the good environment among the team and motivate the different consultants towards the Project’s goals
- Review MEP drawings to ensure accuracy of electrical, thermostat and lighting locations in both units and amenity spaces
- Work with Pre-Construction, Construction, Design and Sub-contractor teams to value engineer/reselect products as needed, while maintaining design integrity
- Communicate to the HD all critical issues and proceed together with constant revisions
- Review Architectural, Structural and MEP plans and Models, in coordination with Interior Design Drawings, to ensure proper coordination
- Review and manage FF&E and Artwork selection
- Maintain knowledge of Design trends, Regulations and innovative products and conduct market research
Key Requirements:
- A minimum of 10+ years of professional experience (Buildings), including in Project stages and construction
- Master of Architecture from a reputable university or Master in Engineering – Civil, or other related with building construction
- Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT and MS Office tools
- Hospitality experience (preferred)
- Reliable, details and results oriented. The candidate can work with autonomy, as well as in a team, and can manage multiple activities and projects at the same time, with different consultants, close deadlines and results oriented
- Business level of written and spoken English is required.
- Available for site visits, and meetings in suppliers or consultants’ offices.
